Song of Simeon

What of Simeon? Not much is spoken of him by Luke. He wasn't a religious person yet truly devout and just. He didn't desire attention. He was looking for the consolation of Israel and he finally sees Him. We aren't sure of his age but scholars agree he was elderly. Like a watchman he patiently waited to see Jesus. John 8-Abraham rejoiced in looking forward to this day. Jehovah-Jireh (the Lord WILL provide). When Jesus did arrivehe was ignored- but Simeon and Anna did not ignore, on the contrary, looked forward to the day of the Messsiah's birth. They were the last to live under the Lord's regime. Simeon was ready to die because he had seen his salvation.

Jesus was a common name meaning the Lord save. Simeon is literally holding Jesus when he sings.

Are you ready to depart in peace? Are you ready to die? Are you ready to face God?

Simeon Was!

Simeon spoke of revelation to the Gentiles being a Jew himself.

What is the glory of Israel? Jesus is. Always was.

Simeon's song turns dark in vv 34-35. Destruction and resurrection

What do you want in your life? Waht are your dreams, aspirations? What do you think about all the time?  Those are the things that define you. Those are your idols.

-If your hope is in Christ, you will never be let down.

-We should be eager in anticipation like Simeon for the Lord's return Phil 3:20, 1Cor 1:7, Rom 8:19
