Hiding Under a Tent

January 15, 2023 Preacher: Jonathan Rodriguez Series: Acts

Topic: God's Providence Scripture: Acts 18:1-7

What we see in Act's 18 is a discouraged Paul.  What we also see is how a loving and caring God draws close to Paul and provides for him in many different ways.

Three things are shown in this passage.

1) Pauls Fellowship,

2) God's Encouragement

3) God's Protection

Paul leaves Anthens and on his way to Corinth meets a Jew named Aquila and his Wife Priscilla. They were Jewish and were expelled from Rome. Paul had just been chased out of Athens and prior to that stoned in Thessalonica.  They became friends and both went to Corinth and worked to earn money. Paul friends Silas and Timothy arriced from Macedonia to help his spead the good news.

Paul spent his spare time Spreading the good news of Jesus to the Jews, Who rejected him.  He finally gave up discouraged trying to reach the Jews.  God told him, not to fear for I am with you, so he stayed and preached to the Gentiles who were receptive.  God continued to provide him with encouragement and funds via Aquila and Priscilla.  God's church grew within the Gentiles and some Jews.

God provided protection.  When gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews made a united attack on Paul and brought him before the tribunal.  The Tribunal refused to take up the issue because he did not break any Roman laws.  The people outside the Tribunal then seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue.  This protected Paul and he continued to preach the good news of Jesus for 1 1/2 years.

Three important rules are shown here. 1) Fellowship with your Local Church, 2) Keep on preaching the word, and 3) Trust God for your protection and for your needs.
