Behold Our God

How Deep the Father's Love for Us

 - NEW TESTAMENT READING -

Philippians 2:5-11
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant,being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

 - PASTORAL PRAYER -

Written by Steve Schultz

Heavenly and sovereign Father, enable me to have the mind of Christ, who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with You something to use to His advantage, to lord over others, or to seek glory for Himself.

Foster in me the humility necessary to not be driven by my pride, by my selfishness, by my agenda or by my ambition but rather to seek the wellbeing of others first. Help me to consider others better than myself and tend to their emotional, spiritual, and physical needs before I tend to my own.

Remove any fear or insecurity I may have as a result of threats to my health, to my job, or to my comfort and replace it with a trust in You that only You can provide. Use my current trials to free me from my idols and to draw my eyes to Your throne from where You rule.

Let me not forget the price that was paid for my soul and help me to rest in the investment You have made in me for Your glory, being confident in Your protection and provision in my life.

Thank you for causing my knee to bow to the Creator of the Universe. Enable and lead me now to take the Gospel to a world that is so desperate to hear. Use my circumstances and my desires to guide me to those you have prepared to bow the knee as well and to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to Your glory! Amen.

Yet Not I, But Christ in Me

We Look To You

 - OLD TESTAMENT READING -

Zechariahl 9:9-17

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
    righteous and having salvation is he,
humble and mounted on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim
    and the war horse from Jerusalem;
and the battle bow shall be cut off,
    and he shall speak peace to the nations;
his rule shall be from sea to sea,
    and from the River to the ends of the earth.
As for you also, because of the blood of my covenant with you,
    I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
Return to your stronghold, O prisoners of hope;
    today I declare that I will restore to you double.
For I have bent Judah as my bow;
    I have made Ephraim its arrow.
I will stir up your sons, O Zion,
    against your sons, O Greece,
    and wield you like a warrior's sword.

Then the Lord will appear over them,
    and his arrow will go forth like lightning;
the Lord God will sound the trumpet
    and will march forth in the whirlwinds of the south.
The Lord of hosts will protect them,
    and they shall devour, and tread down the sling stones,
and they shall drink and roar as if drunk with wine,
    and be full like a bowl,
    drenched like the corners of the altar.

On that day the Lord their God will save them,
    as the flock of his people;
for like the jewels of a crown
    they shall shine on his land.
For how great is his goodness, and how great his beauty!
    Grain shall make the young men flourish,
    and new wine the young women.

  • Continue to memorize Philippians 4:4-7
  • Read about the Last Supper (Luke 22:7-23). Emphasize that Jesus used the Passover meal with His disciples to teach them that He would die as the true passover lamb in order to save His people. Remind your children of the gospel, that Jesus died in our place for our sins in order to make us right before God.
  • Discuss:
    • Why did Jesus choose to use the Passover meal to teach His disciples?
    • Why does Jesus have to die for our sin? What does this tell us about the seriousness of sin?
