Topic: Christian Living Scripture: Hebrews 13:5

Description: Living in Light of the Gospel

Keep your life free from the love of money but instead put your love in Christ who is more loving, merciful and powerful then money or anything else.

Keep your life from covetousness. God will not allow anyone or thing to be put before him. Covetousness is the oppisite of contentment.

What do you covet right now?

A covetous man is a:

1. Faithless (Eve)

Eve did not trust in God, leading her to eat the fruit, proving she was not content in the garden which was literally paradise.

2. Thankless (Hamon)

Because of one man who didnt bow down in respect to Hamon, even though everyone else did, he was enraged and not thanful to the people who did respect him showing his dicontent in what he already had. This ultimately led to his death. Be content in God.

3. Grevious (The Rich Young Ruler)

The man knew the law and kept it but Jesus knew his heart. He was a greedy and covetous man and when Jesus addressed him on this matter he went away sorrowful knowing he could never give up what he loved which was money and possesions.

Be Conent: contentment shows itself in thanfulness to the Lord.

A Content man is a:

1. Faithful Man (Paul and Jesus)

Even though Paul went through a myraid of trials and hardships, his faith did not waiver and he stood faithful in Christ.

2. Thanful Man ( Paul and Jesus)

Paul constantly thanks God for his grace and mercy on him and to the churches. Jesus throughout his ministry publically thanks His father.

3. Generous Man (Paul and Jesus)

Paul was not a lover of money or fame but a humble laborer, not for the sake of money but for the sake of the Gospel. Paul imitated Christ because He knew Christ was Perfectly Faithful, Perfectly Thankful and Perfectly Generous. Jesus set aside his life in heaven to generously give up his life for his people.

Be content here and now while looking foward to the things to come.

Application

1. Identify what you covet.

2. Pray to the Lord for his enabling grace to let go of what you sinfully covet.

3. Be Content

4. Don't be content with your sin.
