You are not saved by works. No self harm, pilgramages, money or anything can get you closer to heaven except by faith alone by Gods grace alone.

We should be relived from the burden of sin lifted by Jesus' death on the cross. Because he loved us first we can love him. The just shall live by faith and thats what frees us, it is Christ who sets us free.
