No Regrets

March 10, 2024 Preacher: Caleb Bunch Series: 1 Samuel

Topic: Regret Scripture: 1 Samuel 15

Text: 1 Samuel 15
Title: No Regrets
Topic: Regret
Description: Does God ever regret His actions? If so, is it the same as our regret?

1. Truth 1: God Knows Everything  -   We are blind to the future and what effects our actions will cause.  God is not surprised about what will happen.  He knows the secrets of the heart and he knows what will happen and the future.

 - Psalm 44:21; John 3:20
 - Psalm 139:4
 - Isaiah 55:8-9

2  Truth 2: God Ordains Everything  -  Nothing ever happens that God did not plan.     God knew that Kings would not work for the Jews.  He knew Saul would Fail as a King.

 - Matthew 10:29-30
 - Isaiah 46:8-10

3. Truth 3: God Does Not Change.  We change as we grow and experience more life.  God does not change and he does not change his mind.   God does not Change.
 -  James 1:17
 -  Malachi 3:6
 -  Hebrews 13:8

4. Truth 4: God Does Not Regret Like Humans Do.  God does not Lie either.  What ever he says is truth and what he says will happen, happens.
 -  John 8:44
 -  Titus 1:2
 -  Exodus 6:6

5. Truth 5: God Does Regret - He feels sorrow, but does not regret.  “It is a tragedy when Saul refuses to be Yahweh’s disciple; it grieves Yahweh. He is not a ‘you win some - you lose some’ god. Nonchalance is never listed as an attribute of the true God. Verse 11 does not intend to suggest Yahweh’s fickleness of purpose, but His sorrow over sin. It does not depict Yahweh flustered over lack of foresight, but Yahweh grieved over lack of obedience.” - Dale Ralph Davis.
 - Genesis 6:6

A. Doctrinal Point: God Ordains Events that He Knows will Cause Him Grief.  God hand picked Saul knowing he would fail his orders.
 -   Acts 2:23

 B. Application: Do Not Grieve the Holy Spirit - Saul was not a true follower of the Lord and we can also cause God to grieve by our disobediance.   We must put off the way of the world and put on the ways of God.  Honor Him in everything.
  -  Eph. 4:30
  - "Ephesians 4:17-32"
