Description: In this sermon we consider the parenthood and priesthood of Eli. Most importantly, we see how Jesus is the faithful high priest that was prophesied to come and be the answer to all of Eli's failures.

 1. Parenthood: God giving you a sinner to take care of till they grow up. Th ebible is the instruction manual to raise our kids

Eli's Parenting Errors

 1. Sons were Contemptous- Thye would steal the sacrifices to God. Treated the offering to the Lord with contempt. Spitting on the Gospel.

2. Eli was image conscience: Concerned, not baout the irrevernce shown to God by his sons but by the reputation of God.

3. Eli was Complicit: He was reaping the rewards of his sons sin. He honors his sons more than God.

4. Weak and missed the point- Eli did not raise or discipline his sons correctly and now he could not save them from Gods judgement which was death. If it were up to us to save our children, there would be no hope only God can.

2. Priesthood: Ex 28:1- Priesthood was established by God.

1. Being instructed by the devil

2 Cor 6:15- Paul talks about Belail and how we should not be instructed by him but in 1 samuel it speaks of the sons of Eli and how they were called the sons of Belial. John8:42-44-The priesthood during Gods time was also corrupt.

2. Eli did not belive God could save sin

Luke 2:52: Samuel is pointing foward to the Greatest High Priest which was and is God. Hebrew 2:17-If we sin against God, who will intercede for us, Jesus will. Hebrews 7:22-27- Jesus is not like the other priests but he is perfect, holy and the only one able to atone for our sins. The lords supper is to remind us of the High Priestly work God has done for us, his people. Hebrews 10:8-10- Priest repeatedly sacrafice to God over and over again while jesus was the one and only sacrafice and he paid it all. Hebrews 9:11-14- His blood purified us from our works and but his perfect works on us.
